Event Information in April [Event Information]

In April, we have lots of major festivals in Shizuoka. However, due to the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami striking, they’ve decided to call off some of them. That doesn’t mean we have been damaged badly. Just we think we should refrain voluntarily from things such as festivals as long as hundreds of thousands of disaster victims are living in insufficient situations.

Because we are not still sure which festival is to be held on schedule, I here show events that have already officially cancelled to this day.

* Matsuri = Festival

Ganko Matsuri Festival Mar 19 – 20 Hamamatsu City Cancelled
Kompira-san, Setogawa Sakura Matsuri Mar 26 – 27 Fujieda City Cancelled
Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Sakura Matsuri Mar 26 – Apr 10 Fujinomiya City Cancelled
Izu Kogen Sakura Matsuri Mar 5 – Apr 3 Ito City Cancelled
The 55th Shizuoka Matsuri Festival Apr 1 – 3 Shizuoka City Cancelled
Enshu Yokosuka Mikumano Jinja Taisai Apr 1 – 3 Kakegawa City Pending
Atagawa Onsen Sakura Matsuri Apr 1 – 3 Higashiizu Town Cancelled
The 60th Himesama Dochu Apr 2 – 3 Hamamatsu City Cancelled
Kariyado “Haruno Nanohana Sakura Matsuri” Apr 9 – 10 Fujinomiya City Cancelled
Yaizu Minato Matsuri Festival Apr 10 Yaizu City Cancelled
Atami Marine Fireworks Display Apr 16 Atami City Cancelled
The 22nd Atami Odori Apr 28 – 29 Atami City Cancelled

I’ve just picked up nothing but major events of March and April. If you are planning to join some events in Shizuoka, please inquire us first.

Have a good weekend !

About the earthquake activities in Japan [Information]

● Report as of March 18

画像(310x241)・拡大画像(640x498)

Yesterday, we had dozens of quakes again in Japan. These epicenters were scattered and sporadic but almost all centered on Tokai & Kanto area to Tohoku area. Fortunately, none of them caused large damages but people are feeling scary because we are now all too nervous.
In Shizuoka, we work just as usual. As for the traffic, not badly confused it seems, though temporary electric interruption in the east part of Shizuoka still perplex or upset people living there.
Nuclear power plants in Fukushima seem also stable for now. We’ve all acknowledged that this is absolutely the first problem to be fixed. I saw a TV coverage reporting that they affirmed the outcome of water injection from the sky and the ground implemented yesterday because the numerical value of radioactivity had got down.
Anyway, for the tourists already in Japan, and for all who are planning to come to Shizuoka, or Japan, in the near future, we show the present condition of transportation services in Japan.

Tokaido Shinkansen Super Express : Operated as usual ( Tokyo to Osaka ) Updated condition ( in Japanese )
Tokaido Line : Some trains between Atami and Hamamatsu are out of service due to the temporary interruption of electric service.
Gotemba Line : Completely out of service.
Minobu Line : Completely out of service between Nishi Fujinomiya and Kofu station.
Narita Airport : Some delayed or canceled. Details for Narita Airport
Haneda Airport : Some delayed or canceled. Details for Haneda Airport
Mt.Fuji Shizuoka Airport : Operated as usual. Details for Mt.Fuji Shizuoka Airport

We feel really grateful that people all around the world care so much about us every day. All messages have been firmly received to become the bread for lives for those who are still coerced under the disastrous situation. So far, 5692 people have been found dead and 9506 are still missing.
I’ll be in touch soon.

Thank you.

About the earthquake activities in Japan [Information]

We thank all of you for your considerate sympathy and messages to us.

● Report as of March 17
We had a few small quakes yesterday. Not so strong. No dead or injured people have been reported so far. The largest problem that all people in Japan care about now is the radioactivity level in the air. Nuclear Power Plants in Fukushima have not yet been stable. The longer it takes, the more confused we become, and unsubstantiated rumors get widespread on its own, which may cause a chaotic situation.
Some people in Shizuoka also have been worried about Mt. Fuji. Actually Mt. Fuji has been said that it may erupt at any moment since I was a small kid. This time, as 300 years have passed since the last Mt. Fuji eruption, all specialists say that the earthquake may provoke magma deep under Mt, Fuji and cause the explosion.

Narita Airport : Some delayed or canceled. Details for Narita Airport
Haneda Airport : Some delayed or canceled. Details for Haneda Airport
Mt.Fuji Shizuoka Airport : Operated as usual. Details for Mt.Fuji Shizuoka Airport

TV reported, this morning, that rescue supplies have been delivered to the disaster victims in Miyagi and Fukushima. I could see them smiling through the monitor, the number of casualties is getting increased hour by hour, though. So far, 4164 people have been found dead and 7843 are still missing.
I’ll let you know the updated information soon.

Thank you.

About our condition in the multiple earthquakes [Information]

We thank all of you for your considerate sympathy and messages to the earthquakes.

● Report as of March 16
We had a strong earthquake in Shizuoka last night. According to our criteria for the quake, it marked 6+ in Fujinomiya City, the city at the foot of Mt.Fuji, while the catastrophic earthquake in Tohoku Area was 7. Fortunately we haven’t got disastrous damage so far, but we are not sure when the day comes.
Right now, they had also a strong quake in Chiba and Ibaraki. It marked 5-. We are in such an unstable situation.
For the tourists already in Japan, and for all who are planning to come to Shizuoka, or Japan, in the near future, we show the present condition of transportation services in Japan.

Tokaido Shinkansen Super Express : Operated as usual ( Tokyo to Osaka ) Updated condition ( in Japanese )

Gotemba Line : Completely out of service.

To those who are planning to visit Japan or Shizuoka [Information]

On March 11, we had a catastrophic earthquake followed by a disastrous Tsunami tidal wave in the Tohoku Area ( north part ) of Japan. As of March 14, it is reported that more than 1500 people has been dead and about 2000 seriously injured, and more than 1700 people are still missing.

In addition, as almost all people around the world know, we have another problem. That is the atomic power plant in Fukushima Prefecture. We are trying every possible effort to stop it from radiation accident but it is not such simple. Furthermore, there have been occurring some electric problems around Kanto Area under Tokyo Electric Power for the lack of electric supplies and that causes us compulsory interruption of electric services. This includes cities in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma, Chiba, Saitama and eastern part of Shizuoka, and people there must undergo forcible 3 hour blackout every day, started from Today. Even trains, including JR line, are not exception, not to mention hotels and ryokans.

If you have been planning to come to Japan, especially upper part of Japan on a trip, we advise you to think it over and over again.

I’ll let you know if everything is to be operated normally again.

Have a good day !
