A new commercial facility is going to get started from April 1, 2012 in Asagiri Highland, Fujinomiya city at the foot of Mt. Fuji, Shizuoka Prefecture. “Asagiri Food Park” is a theme park ( or a small town ? ) standing right beside the Asagiri Kogen roadside station, which will offer you the opportunity to touch the real local products such as Sake, Milk, Green tea and more. I joined the preview tour the other day to show you what it’s like. See the map anyway. Overwhelming Mt. Fuji is right behind the park !
One of the stores, “Fujimasa Shuzo” sake brewery is not only where you can taste and buy local sake but where you can learn how sake is produced because the sake factory is open to the public and you can study it through the window. Sounds fun ?^^ They also sell some cosmetic products including sake. Especially, the hand cream was really popular among tour participants.
The green tea shop is also my recommendation because you can there taste one of the most unique ice creams as in the picture ( this is only for tasting. You can ask for regular soft ice cream for ¥300 ). See ? Green tea powder on the crème. Believe it or not, fragrant flavor of green tea goes very well with sweet ice cream ! Other tea set menu with sweets is also available. By the way, they sell 3 hundred thousand yen/1kg tea ! Amazing, isn’t it ?
Lunch menu was really something to me. Buffet style, mostly consisting of local specialties such as vegetables, Yogurton Pork ( a brand name of pork in Fujinomiya ), trout, and other stuff ! I might be too greedy then. It should look more decent like Japanese Kaiseki Cuisine but no sense of beauty. Perfect lunch though !^^ I, needless to say, went for another plate of meat, vegetable and rice. For big eaters like me, nothing is better than buffet anyway ♪
Other than things above, you can study sweet potato confectionery factory, milk plant and Japanese confectionery making and buy these products. Lots of authentic local gourmet of Fujinomiya can be discovered in Asagiri Food Park. Please be sure to stop by when you drive around Mt. Fuji.^^
Please see the website for reference.

Amagi district, in the middle of Izu Peninsula, Izu City, is very famous for Wasabi and the best recommendation if you like to see or experience wasabi fields. On my way to Kawazu from Shuzenji, I stopped by a roadside station “Amagi goe” to drop at “Wasabi-no Sato”. Because there, you can find a wonderful soft ice-cream.^^ Ever imagined ice-cream with wasabi ? It tastes miraculously good ! Real just grated wasabi on the ice cream. Soon after you taste wasabi and feel the real fresh flavor, try it with ice cream. Indescribable harmony with wildness and modesty. How can I explain ?^^; At the other shop, another wasabi soft ice cream is available. Kneaded one. Compare those two below. Which one would you like ? ^^
As for Amagi, I like Joren Fall best ! Wasabi fields and wasabi shop are found along the river. The crystal-clear air and water will absolutely refresh your mind and soul. Just sitting is fine to me. In summer, it will cool us with minus ion. Anyway, for further information, please read our former report. There you can also try wasabi soft ice cream but, you know, I was not ready for the third ice cream then.^^; So you try and tell me someday.
Have a good day !

Now, the cottage in “Acty Mori”. It looked rather like real residential houses to me. I talked to a manager to let me in the room to introduce it in our report. Here is the details.
Cottage Acty
Room Charge:
¥10,000 /1-2 guest(s)
¥20,000 /up to 5 guests
¥10,000 /for one-day use
Equipment:kitchen, cooking utensils, microwave, fridge, rice cooker, TV, air-conditioner, bathroom, washroom, 2 beds and 3 sets of futon ( Japanese-style bedding ). BBQ kit available
The bedroom is upstairs. It may be too spacious for 2 guests but couples could enjoy a virtual married life.^^ Though these plans doesn’t come with dinner or breakfast, there is some restaurants nearby in Acty Mori. Or soba noodle house is beside the cottage. You can also experience Soba noodle making there !
Camping site is also available a few minute drive away. Don’t let go this opportunity that you can enjoy your days in the great nature !
On my way back, I dropped at a ryokan near Enshu Mori station to have a late lunch. I could have had lunch in Acty but it’s always more intriguing in ryokan, isn’t it ?^^ Most of these dishes are of local fish and vegetables. Especially, I liked lemon-soaked tuna sashimi. Fishes all come from Omaezaki Port, he explained. I finished up all of them in no time and had a second rice !^^
Iyashino-sato

Lunch : ¥790〜
Open Hours : 11:30 – 14:00
After that, I drop by a Japanese cake shop for the famous “Ume-goromo”. It’s kind of difficult to describe but imagine, manju ( cake with sweet bean paste inside ) wrapped by a sheet of shiso ( beefsteak plant ) used for making umeboshi ( Japanese pickled plum ). Weird, isn’t it ? But it tastes surprisingly good. No wonder it has become so popular !
Eishodo
Access : 10 minute walk from Enshu Mori Station.
Open Hours : 8:30 – 19:00 ( closed on Wednesdays )
So what about my report this time ?^^ I wish I could report “Otagawa Dam”, “Kawasemi Lake” and “Tomodake House” that I mentioned last time. Maybe someday, I will.
Have a good day !
Acty Mori

Fujinomiya usually makes us think of “Fujinomiya Yakisoba” fried noodle but they have something “No 1” besides Mt. Fuji. The picture tells something about it. Can you tell that ?^^ It’s trout. Rainbow Trout, actually. They have the largest share of trout hatchery and farming in Fujinomiya. Telling the truth, I had not known the fact either until I was told by my company of Fujinomiya Tourist Association that day.^^; That is why I was taken to the “Fuji Trout Hatchery & Farming Center” next. There, they raise around 10 species of fish including rainbow trout, mountain trout and silver salmon in the blessing of Mt. Fuji. I saw hundreds of thousands of fish in the water. I also found “Golden Trout” that I had seen in “Shiraito Falls” and “Sengen Taisha Shrine”.^^
“Golden Trout” I mentioned is, to be exact, called “Albino Trout”, mutation for the lack of pigment. They often use the trout for growth observation.
Those who can’t stop yourself from catching them can move on to the river beside the hatchery. You can enjoy trout-fishing for ¥1700 with the fishing rod and bait provided, and as much as 1kg of trout (around 5 trout ) you may catch included. It’s very popular among campers because you can enjoy it without taking fishing equipments. Imagine yourself waiting for trout bite in such a beautiful woods. These fish to go are to be readily prepared for BBQ ! Sounds good ?^^
To my surprise, the trout center has, small though, an aquarium, too. Admission free. There, you can observe various fishes raised in the trout center in a tank.^^
Now, you know, trout is not a fish only for observation. Farmed fish are mostly for us to eat, right ? ヾ(*`∀´*)ゞ So I dropped at “Masu-no Ie” to find it out !
Masu-no Ie is a trout-specialized restaurant that is rare even in Japan. Inside there is a pure Japanese-style tatami room. While I was staring at a small garden through the window, dishes began to get served. First came, as appetizers, Sashimi, Arai ( sashimi soaked in iced-water ), Shigure-ni ( meat boiled in soy source ) and other creative cuisines. And a large fried trout and a gratin !
Especially, I loved the fried trout meat coming with tartar sauce ! It was so hot as to scald my tongue but the flavor of the trout spread through my mouth. The dishes individually may seem so decent. Still I was fully satisfied because of the number of it. ^^v Check out the menu from here.
So, how do you like my report about attractions of summer in Fujinomya ? The great nature created by the underflow water of Mt. Fuji and living things blessed by that. I was educated once again the greatness of Mt. Fuji. I really wish you come to Fujinomiya this summer to make your day !^^
Have a good day !

Recently, we have lots of tourists from abroad, especially from Taiwan for the chartered flight service tour. A couple of weeks ago, we went to Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport to say “Welcome to Shizuoka” to the visitors coming out of the gate.
Today, I introduce something we found at the airport.
At 8:00 in the morning, we got to the airport to meet visitors from Taiwan at 9:30. Plenty of time to go. We went up to the third floor to have a unique breakfast as we’d found a newspaper article saying about “Asarah” in the airport.
“Asarah” means a ramen noodle in the morning, which was brought out and spread largely from Fujieda City. Noodles in the morning ? Yeah, it not so bad, actually.
I ordered Asarah at the counter without any question. First, a sip of soup. Made of some seafood. It tasted so good and light for the morning ! Airplanes through the window might make it better.^^
A few minutes before 9:00, we began to prepare small souvenirs for the guests and after 10:15, we finished all welcome services by waving to the tour buses. More than 120 visitors ! Thanks for Mt. Fuji, maybe.^^
We were supposed to take the direct shuttle bus to Shizuoka Station, but we had still much time for the next bus. Now, what should we do ? Then, we hit upon an awesome idea. A well known temple was nearby ! And an observation deck was on its way.
In a few minutes, we got to the deck, where many photographers had already flocked around with expensive looking cameras in their hands. I felt a sense of tension. No wonder, because a Korean Airline was about to land. Happily, we could also see a China Airline taking off.
Now, we headed toward the temple, passing through, yeah, the forest of cedars. My eyes got more and more allergic causing intense itch. Damn it all !
After a few moments, we reached there, “Sekiunin Temple”. Holly cow ! I couldn’t understand why I had never been there before. See the large gate ? Good trail underneath.
Sekiunin Temple was established about 550 years ago, in Muromachi Period. This temple, unfortunately, is said to have caught fire three times so far. Some of them were rebuilt in Edo Era. Carvings of Hondo main hall have been designated as a cultural treasure of Makinohara City.
When we left there, we saw a group of tour, maybe from Korea, in front of the gate, guided by a lady. Was they on the Korean Airline I saw from the deck ?
Now, you know “How to spend time around the airport”, right ?^^
Have a good day !
Sekiunin Temple
Access from the airport : 5 minutes on foot
Admission : Free ( Open 7 days a week )
