Mt. Fuji Viewing Spot ― Fujikawa Rakuza [Fuji City]

画像(350x262)・拡大画像(576x432)

Last weekend, actually after I visited Dondon Yaki, I drove all the way to “Fujikawa Rakuza” looking for fantastic views. Fujikawa Rakuza is basically a SA of Tomei Expressway in Fuji City which is often featured as one of the best spots for Mt. Fuji Viewing but it’s also accessible from the local roadway.
In 30 minutes or so from Shizuoka City, I reached Fujikawa Rakuza. It stands by the wide spread Fuji River that flows into Suruga Bay. It’s also known as one of the 3 fastest rivers in Japan.

Now, I walked up the stairs and went through a line of souvenir shops and restaurants to get outside the building on the 3rd floor. Beautiful day. I was almost dancing around.

This year, somehow though, the snow on its top looks less than ever before in Jan. Maybe it’s warm this year ? Or simply lack of snowfall ? The Mt. Fuji I saw on Jan 9 is like this picture.

画像(310x234)・拡大画像(624x473)

After I took pictures enough, I visited some food-stands. The crape was really nice ! And salted and fried horse mackerel, Fujinomiya Yakisoba fried noodle, burgers, and Icecream. All junkie food are my friends !^^

I also enjoyed star watching in the planetarium. It was indescribably good ! Actually, it was registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s most advanced planetarium projector named Megastar-IIB in July, 2011. So lively and realistic that I felt I had been in a desolate desert or something looking up the stars. Seeing is believing. Try it !^^

After all, I was there almost 3 hours. The moon was so amorous in the east and the night view of Fuji City looked so gorgeous to me.

Have a good day !^^

Hike around Mt. Fuji − To Mt. Hoei Crater – 2 [Fujinomiya]

画像(244x310)・拡大画像(375x476)

Now, I took the direction to Mt. Hoei from the 6th station. The trail was easy to follow. A mass of fog came toward us and soon we got shrouded in it. In ten minutes or so, I stood right in front of the crater ! I took a video to tell you how foggy it was. Please play it anyway.^^

画像(310x232)・拡大画像(640x480)

Now, I walked in it along the trail to reach Mt. Hoei and it was the very sort of ordeal or vicissitude to me because, descending was fine though, the trail is rather sandy and my climbing shoes were mired in it every time I stepped to ascend. And what is more, physical power wouldn’t be restored enough due to insufficient oxygen. My walking was like this; 10 steps and 30 second rest and 30 steps and 5 minute rest. No wonder I took almost 1.5 hours to the top of Mt. Hoei from the bottom of the crater ( climbers would make it in an hour ). ^^;

画像(310x232)・拡大画像(640x480)

Still, the fog was flowing when I reached on the top. No views. All I could see was a white air. I found a monument ( maybe a sun-clock ) at the edge of the site. Snack time. Salty rice cracker was so good as though the saline soaked into my body. Twitter for the “Enjoy Shizuoka” again. Then, suddenly, believe it or not, a miracle occurred. The fog cleared away and the thick cloud broke up, and the blue sky showed up right over my head just as the god opened the door to say hello to me. The sky looked more blue than “blue”. The clouds were like cotton candies. Mountain lines were literally beyond description.
I attach a video below to tell you all the beauty of the miracle moment. You would think it’s definitely a world of gods and goddesses !

Blue sky & fields of cloud

画像(310x221)・拡大画像(520x372)

There, I took one of the most unusual pictures in my life ! Can you see what it is ? I found a figure on the place where human ought not to be, which tuned out soon to be myself. Yes, it was my shadow reflected in the haze far in the distance. Maybe Mt. Fuji is such a mountain wrapped in mysteries and miracles.
The blue sky got out of my sight after only 10 minutes or so. I stepped down the trails and when I got to the 5th, another miraculous blue sky came out. Impressive ! Please visit Mt. Fuji where all kinds of nature sprits play around, and you will see how blue the sky is supposed to be.

Hike around Mt. Fuji − To Mt. Hoei Crater – 1 [Fujinomiya]

画像(310x232)・拡大画像(640x480)

It was by no means a good weather for hiking when I left JR Fuji Station by “Mt. Fuji Climbing Bus” for Mt. Fuji 5th station of Fujinomiya Trail. Actually, it rained a bit on my way. Still, the wonder of Mt. Fuji is that the weather in the city is not always the same as one at the 5th. I expected the blue sky. Maybe everyone on the bus did. We passed Fujinomiya and finally got in on the “Fujisan Sky-like” mountain road, proceeding into the clouds. Clouds, clouds, and clouds again until finally we reached the 5th station. Gosh……But lots of climbers were there on the fifth.

画像(350x249)・拡大画像(618x441)

At the fifth, you can overlook cities, or fields of cloud. There I took the early lunch. It means much because you should take time at the 5th at least more than an hour to make your body accustomed to the air pressure. Or, you may have a mountain sickness that causes serious headache and dizziness. Anyway, I was there for 1.5 hours and got myself prepared for climbing. As a matter of fact, we had been very concerned about the drastic drop-off in number of climbers due to the earthquake but it seemed nothing. I saw not only Japanese but lots of visitors from abroad.

画像(232x185)・拡大画像(640x510)
画像(232x185)・拡大画像(640x511)

画像(310x284)・拡大画像(640x587)

Now, this is the footstep I walked. To reach Mt. Hoei and its crater, you first get to the 6th which will take 20 – 30 minutes from the 5th. I took more than that maybe because you know……I am a down-only specialist.^^; There were so many climbers at the 6th. Some were on their way up to the top and others were down to the 5th. I took a short rest again there to control my breath and to send my message to our new website “Enjoy Shizuoka” from my cell-phone using Twitter. It’s very simple to use and all necessary information about Shizuoka is there, or you can post your message and even ask us ( or somebody ) about what you are going to do. By the way, you can have the Fujinomiy Trail guide-map in the picture at the information office on the fifth. English, Chinese and Korean adscripted.

画像(232x174)・拡大画像(640x482)

画像(350x262)・拡大画像(640x480)

At the sixth, you will find a direction board saying one to the summit and the other to Mt. Hoei. I stood at the gateway to the summit which looked to me very close from where I was, but trust me, it is nothing of the kind. I could tell the trails because climbers were making lines along it. The 7th can be seen just right over there, which actually would take about 1 hour to reach. What is most important about climbing is that you don’t do more than what you can do. Keep your own pace.
Anyway, I took the way to Mt. Hoei. I’ll report the rest next time.

Have a good day !

Coming of Summer holidays ! ― Mt.Fuji 5th Station in Fujinomiya City [Fujinomiya]

画像(350x273)・拡大画像(588x459)

What do you imagine from Fujinomiya in Summer. Yep, definitely Mt. Fuji ! Yoshida trail, Yamanashi, is not the only way for it. I believe Fujinomiya trail is the best among 4 routes.

Now, after enjoying Lake Tanuki, or Tanukiko Lake enough, I was taken to the 5th station for Fujinomiya trail by a lovely staff of Fujinomiya Tourist Association. Today, let me take this opportunity to talk about Mt. Fuji climbing. Actually, last year, I gave it a try. Slow, though, I reached to the top of Mt. Fuji after about 7 hours after all. My trip was,

画像(310x232)・拡大画像(640x480)

12:00・・・At the 5th for Fujinomiya Trail
13:30・・・Set-out for climbing
19:00・・・Mountain hut at the 9th.
22:00・・・To bed
02:30・・・Wake up
03:00・・・Set-out for climbing
04:10・・・Arrival to the top

I sometimes play soccer but I always feel fairly short of stamina. Still, I walked slowly, step by step, which got me finally at the summit of Mt. Fuji. So impressed with myself. I could do it, no reason you can’t.^^

画像(310x229)・拡大画像(626x464)

Just let me here advise you something. Be sure to stay at the 5th at least for one hour to make your body accustomed to the air pressure. You don’t have to stop your heart from leaping for the top but take your time fully in overlooking the fantastic views, having coffee, or thinking of what you wanna do for yourself after returning safely to your sweet home. Sleep well the day before climbing. And make sure again and again that you are well prepared for it. Shizuoka prefectural Government made a movie for Mt. Fuji climbers the other day. Please refer to it beforehand. Narrated in 6 languages !

And, though most of them in Japanese, here is a comprehensive information about Mt.Fuji Climbing. Please take a look at it too !
Mt. Fuji Climbing Information from the 5th

For the shuttle bus for Mt. Fuji Climbing, please open this file. I did it in English.^^

Private car is to be restricted to the 5th every weekend and other holidays. Please read the details in advance.
As for Private Car Ristrictions

画像(310x222)・拡大画像(626x449)

When I was there at the 5th, I happened to come across 3 ladies including our staff shooting for a video for tourism promotion. The picture tells “o” in “Shizuoka”. Keep it in mind that their dresses are for shooting, not for climbing, just in case.
You can enjoy Mt. Fuji Climbing until the end of Aug. There are some navigators who do English, Chinese and Korean at the 5th. 2 staff among them are to be manned every day. That is, two-thirds probability for English. Even after Sep, until around Nov, you can enjoy hiking around the 5th. I’ll introduce the hiking trails another day !

画像(350x249)・拡大画像(640x456)

For further questions, please feel free to drop at Fujinomiya Tourist Association that stands in front of JR Fujinomiya Sta. and “Yottemiya” in Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine.^^
I know I’ve said this already but be sure that you are well prepared and in good health to make the priceless experience a lifelong memory !^^

Please download the English brochure of Fujinomiya from here.
Next time comes refreshing “Shiraito Falls” and “Jimba Falls”.^^

Have a good day !
