About Shizuoka Prefecture : How to Reach Shizuoka Prefecture

The main forms of transportation to Shizuoka are airplane, train, bus, and car.
Reaching Shizuoka is quite easy.
It takes one hour to reach Shizuoka from major cities such as Tokyo and Nagoya.
The return trip is also one hour in length.

Reaching Shizuoka by Airplane

Presently, the closest major airports to Shizuoka Prefecture are Chubu International Airport in Aichi and Haneda Airport in Tokyo.
The new Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport is scheduled to be opened in 2009.
It will serve as a gateway to the skies of Shizuoka, offering flights between faraway domestic regions as well as major Asian cities.
In addition, the airport is drawing attention because of its view of Mt. Fuji, the symbol of Japan.
Reaching Shizuoka by Train, Bus, or Car
By Train
The shinkansen (bullet train) runs through the heart of Shizuoka Prefecture with stops at Atami, Mishima, Shin-fuji, Shizuoka, Kakegawa, and Hamamatsu stations.
Traveling by shinkansen, it takes one hour to reach Tokyo, 50 minutes to Nagoya, and 1 hour 45 minutes to Osaka.
The trip from Atami to Tokyo is only 37 minutes.
It is possible to travel from Shizuoka to either the Tokyo or Osaka areas by taking the Tokaido Shinkansen.

By Bus or Car
The Tomei Expressway runs between Tokyo and Nagoya.
Using the expressway, it takes two hours to reach Tokyo and Nagoya, and 3 1/2 hours to reach Osaka from Shizuoka.
JR Tomei Highway buses and JR Tokai buses frequently run on the Tomei Expressway between Tokyo and Nagoya.
It takes approximately 3 hours to reach Shizuoka from Tokyo by bus.
