Hands-on Activities

Learn about Japan by experiencing its traditional culture.

Ozashiki University

If you are visiting Japan, you should definitely experience making traditional crafts here in Shizuoka.

At Sumpu Takumi-Shuku, you can create your own lacquer ware, dyed cloths, bamboo ware, ceramics, and other handmade crafts.

Acty Mori was built in the rich, natural environs of Mori Town, located in western Shizuoka.

Visitors here too can experience making ceramics, washi (Japanese paper), and kusakizome (crafts made by using plant dyes).

In the mountain areas within Shizuoka, there are many places where you can experience making your own soba (buckwheat noodles).

In Makinohara City, known for its green tea, there are establishments where visitors can go tea picking and make temomi (hand rolled tea leaves).

They can also sample unique types of Japanese green tea.

At Ozashiki University, located in the Ito Spa area, women can transform themselves into geisha, which even the Japanese consider a unique experience.

You can become a geisha by wearing a kimono as well as participate in performances associated with these beautiful entertainers.

In addition, Shizuoka is an "industrial powerhouse." Piano, automobile, plastic model, and other industries which represent Japan were all started in Shizuoka Prefecture.

Since many companies offer tours to the public, we recommend that visitors see how the products are made for themselves.
