Central Area
A charming landscape created by cities, natural beauty and a long, dignified history.

Kunozan Toshogu Shrine
Lying in the center of Shizuoka Prefecture this area is evolving as a center of culture.
In Shizuoka City, the seat of the prefectural government, famous spots associated with the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu such as Kunozan Toshogu Shrine and Sumpu Castle give you a sense of this region’s rich history.
On the other hand this trendsetting city bustles with shoppers visiting the fashion stores that fill the shopping districts around the station.
The areas around Yaizu Fishing Port and Shimizu Port which boast the largest haul of tuna and bonito in Japan are popular spots where you can enjoy fresh seafood, and the Sakura shrimp, which is only found in Suruga Bay, is famous throughout the country.
At their best from winter to spring, strawberries are grown in this region and strawberry picking is another activity to enjoy.
Okuoi is an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Taking a steam locomotive train ride, crossing suspension bridges, relaxing in hot springs and sensing the mountains changing with the seasons will calm your body and mind.
This is also a spot to enjoy the aromatic scent of tea in spring and the beauty of the changing leaves in autumn.
To the south-west of Shizuoka City is Makinohara City, home to the soon to be opened Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport.
Not far from here is Gotemba City’s coast which is a popular site for surfing and bathing.
