Western Area

The birthplace of Yamaha and Honda, the Western Area is home to many companies making products using cutting edge technology.

With musical instrument makers such as Yamaha, Kawai and Roland based in Hamamatsu City, it is known as a city of music and holds international music contests and events.

In contrast, the area is overflowing with places of natural scenery such as Lake Hamana, Tenryu River, and the famous hot spring resort Kanzanji Spa, and you can enjoy activities such as marine sports, fishing, and gathering clams.

Kakegawa Castle and many sites and ruins of historical interest are located in this area, and the vibrant Hamamatsu Festival held every May attracts scores of tourists with its famous kite-flying battle which has even been performed overseas.

There are also many spots to enjoy a variety of flowers - not only cherry blossoms, but also wisterias, lilies, irises and hydrangeas, and the seasonal flower tours are another popular attraction.
