Fireworks Display at Sea in Atami
Shizuoka Prefecture hosts many large and small events that give pleasure to the people who attend them.
In Hamamatsu City in May, the "Hamamatsu Festival" is held.
During the day, kites are flown on the beach, and at night, illuminated floats -the Palace Floats- parade through the city, which is enveloped in excitement and passion for three days and nights.
A new event that has become established in Shizuoka is "Daidogei (Street Performance) World Cup in Shizuoka.
" Street performers from all over the world congregate in the city to show off their amazing skills.
The performances which use onlookers as participants are not to be missed.
There are many events over the four seasons.
In spring, the "Hina no Tsurushi kazari (hanging decoration) Festival," featuring small hina dolls, is held in Inatori, in Izu, and the "Kawazu Cherry Blossoms Festival," where you can enjoy the first cherry blossoms of the season in all Japan, attracts nearly two million people.
And in Japan, summer means fireworks.
The "Enshu Fireworks" of Fukuroi City, the "Abe River Fireworks" of Shizuoka City, and the "Kano River Fireworks" of Numazu City are gorgeous events at which 10 to 30 thousand fireworks are set off in a single night.
In autumn, many walking events and tournaments are held to enable people to enjoy the autumn leaves, and in winter, many events are held to coincide with the blooming of the daffodils and plum blossoms.
Which events interest you? We urge you to enjoy them.
