Kakegawa Castle

Kakegawa Castle

Asahina-Yasuteru, a secretary of Imagawa-Yoshitada, built this castle to protect Enshu area. Then this castle was governed by Tokugawa-Ieyasu, and said to be one of the most beautiful castles in Tokai area. Although many buildings including the main building were destroyed by an earthquake in 1854, the residence and drum house were remained undestroyed. In particular, the residence is important to show the structure at that time (important cultural asset of Japan). The main building was rebuilt in real wooden structure, and expresses the beauty of the old times.

Kamo Japanese Iris Garden

Kamo Japanese Iris Garden

Kamo-no-sho is a house of old village headman in the 16th Century. The garden (1 hectare) in front of the gate surrounded by white walls and warehouses, is filled with 1,500 types, 10,000 Japanese iris flowers in June, and many tourists visit here. The flowers were originated more than 100 years ago, and the owner developed them for 1,500 types by continuous collection, improvement and multiplication, so each type has its original beauty and taste. There are also hundreds types of begonia and fuchsia flowers.
